Eight is More than Enough

This just in: Tony Parker bears Roger Federer on ESPN's "Who's Now." They must have been playing on clay in Parker's home country France. No doubt this will be the subject of much water cooler talk and internet mail today, and American commerce will resemble the Iraqi parliament in August.

Here at Ampolotalk, we have a REAL contest going on--the quest to find ESPN's most happen' sports personality. We are down to eight. Voting on the quarterfinalists will be open through Sunday, the 22nd.

Many of you have been sending in great comments with your emailed votes, but haven't been posting those comments. Please do so; it's easy. Otherwise I will post some, but will not give your identity away unless you authorize me to do so.

Send votes to Steve@ampolo.com.

BERMAN-VITALE: In the immortal words (or screams) of John McEnroe ... "You cannot be serious!" Berman is classy, clever, accurate, and entertaining. Vitale was a lousy coach and is an annoying broadcaster. Boomer all the way.

KOLBER-SCOTT: These two are so different, it ought to be an easy choice ... but it isn't. I like both of them, but I'll give the nod to Suzy for the way she handled the drunk and obnoxious Joe Namath a few years ago.

GAMMONS-KORNHEISER: This is a classy mathup with two extremely knowledgeable sportscasters. Mr. Tony often went over the top with Wilbon on PTI, while Gammons is as steady and reliable as can be. Vote for Pedro.

MAYNE-WILBON: After not choosing Kornheiser, how could I vote for Wilbon? I can't. Mayne's dry wit is enough for my vote, and I also appreciate his love for horse racing.
